Knowing the Drawing – Graphic Facilitation in Working with Young People

Representatives of the Gutenberg Association participated in the international training course „Knowing the Drawing“, held from 16–25 January 2026 in Tleń, Poland, within the Erasmus+ Youth programme. The project was coordinated by Fundacja Leonarda (Poland) and brought together youth workers from various European countries to explore the potential of graphic facilitation in non-formal education.

About the Project

The project was developed in response to the specific needs of youth workers, who often face challenges in actively engaging young people, especially when addressing complex or sensitive topics. Graphic facilitation offers an innovative and accessible communication method, transforming learning processes into more interactive, inclusive, and engaging experiences.

Through this training course, participants learned how to integrate visual thinking tools and graphic facilitation techniques into educational activities carried out with young people.

Project Objectives

The project aimed to:

  • understand the impact of visual thinking tools in education and youth work;
  • develop practical skills in infographic design and visual note-taking;
  • apply graphic recording techniques for more effective communication and content delivery;
  • enhance intercultural communication through visual storytelling;
  • build an international network of youth workers exchanging good practices.

Project Results

One of the main outcomes of the project is the Graphic Facilitation Toolkit, developed on the basis of the exercises, experiences, and methods explored during the training course. The toolkit provides practical resources for using graphic facilitation in educational activities, workshops, group meetings, and youth projects.

The toolkit covers topics such as:

  • fundamentals of visual thinking;
  • infographic design and visual note-taking;
  • visual storytelling;
  • graphic recording;
  • graphic facilitation in practice;
  • activities and exercises for working with groups of young people.
